New River Gorge - Hiking Summary
We go to these national parks to hike, which allows us to get close to the beauties of creation, and often avoid the crowds. While each hike has its own post, I wanted to put them all together so I can remember what we accomplished.
Stone Cliff Trail - 6.28 miles - moderate - along the river - no other people
Thurmond District - 2.10 miles - easy - through an old town - a few tourists (until the rain came)
Long Point Trail Area - 7.21 miles - the trail direct to Long Point was easy (until the very end) and quite crowded - we met just a few hikers on the other trails, and they were more moderate (Timber Ridge was easy)
Burnwood Loop - 1.58 miles - easy - just a couple of hikers
Endless Wall Trail - 2.94 miles loop - easy - lots of other hikers
Kaymoor Miners Trail - 1.62 miles - strenuous - several others on the trail
Bridge Trail and Kaymoor Trail part one - 7.14 miles there and back - strenuous (Bridge) and easy (Kaymoor) - busy near the Kaymoor trailhead only
Sandstone Falls - 1.21 miles - easy - some people
Grandview Trails - 4.84 miles - mostly easy (Castle Rock and Tunnel spurs moderate) - fair amount of crowds
Craigs Branch and Kaymoor Trail part two - 4.80 miles - moderate and easy - no people until Miners Trail leg
Park Loop - 2.88 miles - easy - just a couple of other hikers (rainy day)
Big Buck and Woodland Loops - 1.62 miles - easy to moderate - no hikers (rainy day)
Kaymoor Trail part three - 10.01 miles - easy - hundreds of 55K runners (We picked the wrong day for this hike!)
We were able to complete about 55 miles of the trails in this park, and all of them were quite enjoyable. Maybe someday we'll be able to go back and complete what we missed.
