NeverBored in April

For months, if not years, it's been on my list to do a monthly post highlighting the little things that happen each month to keep us from being bored. Now's the time to stop thinking and start doing, to get to the "I'm glad I did, not I wish I had" mindset. So, here goes!

It wasn't an April Fool's trick - on April 1st we finally received dose one of our long-awaited COVID-19 vaccines. We were actually quite impressed with the organization at the county-run site. Three weeks later we returned for the second dose. Now we can start planning a trip to visit my parents!

We had a great time celebrating both Easter and General Conference with Weston's family. We used artifical dye on our Easter eggs, while they used natural ones. Can you tell which is which?

It was fun watching the boys watch themselves in their MCO concert. We're so glad they are magnifying their talents.

Holidays mean traditions, and traditions mean food, at least in our house. We had some old stand-bys and some new treats, and enjoyed every bite.

We went to bed Easter Sunday hoping to wake up to the news that a new grandson had been born. It wasn't quite that quick, but we did add a disc to our family birthday calendar that Monday. Welcome to earth, Michael!

We enjoyed a camping trip to Myakka River State Park, complete with a 15 mile hike. You can read all about that here.

I wasn't there to take any pictures, so I borrowed this one from a friend's post, but Wayne went to the stake Fathers and Sons campout and had a great time. Maybe one of those tents in the background is his!

We played frisbee (or disc) golf for the first time. It's actually a lot of fun, and something we look forward to doing again some day.

We chose to postpone "beach week" - one of the perks of a very flexible schedule is being able to wait for the ideal day weather-wise, and then were only able to fit in one trip instead of two, but we did see a beautiful sunrise, and we still have something to look forward to for next week.

Several hours over several days were spent diagnosing and repairing a malfunctioning freezer. Thanks to YouTube and Amazon we were able to replace the broken heater all on our own, saving us a service repair call. Hopefully it will be a very long time (never would be nice) before we have to do that again.

The part Wayne ordered in December to repair his sander finally arrived; he's excited to be able to work on this project once again. Any idea what it is? If not, you'll have to wait a while until he's ready to reveal the finished product.

And, of course, we continue to enjoy one of our favorite hobbies - cooking new recipes. This month's list included Dutch Oven Beef Sandwiches, Columbia LobsterCider-Brined Chicken, and Tamale Cups. Many of our meals were eaten outside, enjoying the gorgeous South Florida spring weather and the company of our neighborhood snowy egret.

Lots of fun memories for April 2021. Let's see what May brings!
