Little Bottom Trail
After completing our hike on Friday, we checked out the start of Saturday's hike, which was at the far end of Abrams Creek Campground. It's always comforting to know at least a little about what to expect. (I'll admit I have no desire to camp there myself after reading the sign on the restroom door!)
We started down the Cooper Road Trail, and then turned off to take the Little Bottom Trail. Instead of doing a loop (by continuing on the Hatcher Mountain Trail and more of the Cooper Road Trail), we decided to save a bit of mileage and return to that first junction, then take the Cooper Road Trail just to the Goldmine Road trail junction and retrace our steps back to the car. (Wayne had hiked the Hatcher Mountain Trail with Brad and Jeff in 2004, and we were going to do the section of the Cooper Road Trail from Goldmine to Beard Cane on future hikes this week.)
Little Bottom Trail was a gorgeous trail; however, I was expecting it to be fairly flat, following the creek bed. After an initial ascent and then descent, it did follow Abrams Creek, but it continued going up and down over many ridges. Knowing that we were doing an out-and-back trail certainly didn't help psychologically, but we managed to enjoy our hike despite that.
