Rabbit Creek Trail - Part Two

The plan for our second hike was to complete the first hike - by starting at the opposite end of the trail. After going to the creek crossing, the plan was to turn it into a loop trail by going down a couple of different trails on our return to the car, which we parked near the Abrams Creek Campground. Sounds like a good plan, right?

We knew the odds were high that we'd have to start this hike by fording the creek, and we did. This time it was a bit wider and deeper, so we figured it'd be safer to keep our boots on. Hiking with wet feet isn't the most enjoyable, but it wasn't too bad.

After making it to the first junction - 2.7 miles - we continued down the much less traveled portion of the Rabbit Creek Trail. Parts were overgrown with ferns, and other sections had turned into a stream.

After just less than a mile, we made it to Abrams Creek again (which we didn't cross - but that was the plan), then we retraced our steps back to the junction and headed down the Hannah Mountain Trail towards the Little Bottoms Trail. Except for having to climb through a downed tree, this was actually a quite pleasant trail, nearly level until it dropped down to yet another crossing of Abrams Creek.

It was disappointing, but when we noticed how wide and deep and swift this crossing was, we decided the prudent thing would be to skip the loop idea and retrace our steps back to the car. So we did, and we made it safely back to our car!
