Acadia - Precipice Trail

I was still a bit leery, but we had done the Jordan Cliffs Trail and the Beehive Trail, and what I'd read said if you could do those, you could do the Precipice Trail, so off we went! Get an early start, because the parking spaces fill up quickly.

Not too far up the trail, you come to this rock with two iron bars.

There's another bar at the top, which you can't see from the bottom.

Supposedly, if you can climb up this rock, you can climb up any other rock face on the trail. These particular bars were quite distanced from each other, and it was very difficult for me to climb them. I was about ready to turn back, but with encouragement from others, continued on my way. And everyone was right - this was the hardest obstacle. That didn't mean the rest was easy, though! Next up was a mountain of boulders to traverse.

Then we came to the real work of scaling the mountain. These ladders were quite challenging, but you're rewarding with awesome views all along the way. Just be careful and go slowly!

Made it to the top! What a wonderful sense of accomplishment!

On this particular trail, you don't go back down the way you came up. We chose to return to the parking area via the Orange and Black Trail. This was still rocky with lots of stairs, but nice and shaded, and no iron rung ladders.

This definitely was a memorable trail, and we thoroughly enjoyed it, and highly recommend it. Just be aware of your limits, and feel free to read others' reviews here.
