Another November Hike in Virginia

Look at the beautiful drive we had as we returned to Grayson Highlands State Park in order to redo the "nature" trail we took in May. We were only able to actually find two posts - I think we saw four or five in the spring - so I guess it's no longer maintained as a nature trail, but I'm glad we went again. And I'm grateful for the gorgeous weather we had that day. Yes, it was cold, but it was also sunny - a perfect day for a wintery hike.

The trail starts along a little stream, then veers away. We missed this "Y" intersection at first, because it was covered with leaves, but having hiked the trail before, we realized something wasn't right and retraced our steps to find it.

While most of the landscape was brownish, we did spot an occasional green tree. And then we spotted Post #4 at the fishing shelter when we reached the creek. Post #5 was just a bit away, but all the others were hidden from our view somehow. And we were looking for them!

There's the waterfall!

It had been below freezing overnight, and as the sun warmed up the temperature, the ice started melting. I could have stayed and watched that for a while, but we weren't there to relax.

Other hikers must have missed this turn-off regularly, and we were also grateful for the sign that kept us going in the correct direction.

We made it to the gate and crossed the horse trail. Someday we'll come back and see where that trail takes us. The end!

However, the parking area had some pretty scenes to capture as well.
