The Tale of our Third Ten Anniversaries

Happy 39th Anniversary to Us!

That means it's time to record some more memories. This year's "tale" is really a series of stories. A couple of years ago I shared what we did to celebrate our first ten anniversaries. Last year was the second ten. Here are the third ten. If all goes well, you'll get the fourth set on our 40th anniversary next year!

Anniversary #21 - I noted in my journal that on Tuesday of our anniversary week, we attended pack meeting after Michelle's soccer practice. Wednesday (our actual anniversary) was Mutual night. Maybe we went out to dinner on Friday to celebrate. However, the week before, I did join Wayne at a work conference in Sea Island, Georgia. We left the kids to fend for themselves, and enjoyed some time in the "lap of luxury." Since we drove, we were even able to stop at the Orlando Temple for a session on the way up, and another on the way home. That's always one of my favorite ways to celebrate our anniversary.

Anniversary #22 - Here's another example of life with teenagers and young adults. On this Friday anniversary, we went to the airport to pick up Wayne's parents for a weekend of celebration. (My parents drove down to be with us as well.) That day we explored Fort De Soto. Brad's Eagle Court of Honor was on Saturday. Sunday we had a combined missionary homecoming (Weston) and farewell (David). It was one of those "payday" weekends, and a perfect way to celebrate our anniversary.

Anniversary #23 - We finally had a Saturday anniversary, and we used our "free" time to drive to Gainesville to purchase a van to replace the one that had died earlier in the month. (There weren't any to be found in the Tampa area.) Once that chore was done, we did go out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary.

Anniversary #24 - I didn't record any details for this anniversary, which was on a Sunday, but I did note that Wayne returned home from a business trip to Sweden in time to give a High Council talk in church. Although I can’t remember what we actually did, I know it was nice to have him home to celebrate our anniversary.

Anniversary #25 - On our actual anniversary this year, Monday, we had our traditional family home evening with back-to-school Father's blessings. (This was the year of Josh and Josh in seminary, and along with getting Brad ready for his mission, it was a particularly stressful month; I appreciated receiving my own priesthood blessing that night.) However, #25 is a big anniversary, so we splurged and had dinner at Bern's Steakhouse later that week. It was absolutely "a taste of excellence, an experience to remember." Their steaks are delicious, and their desserts are incredible, but the atmosphere is what makes it so memorable. We highly recommend making your own memories there, and it was a wonderful way to celebrate our Silver Anniversary.

Note: A few years later (November 2010), we celebrated Wayne's new job (which meant we'd be leaving the area) with a family dinner at Bern's. It was another fabulous experience. Aren't these desserts just too beautiful to eat? (But that didn't stop us from doing so.)

Anniversary #26 - This was another mid-week, beginning of the school year anniversary. The highlight this year was only having to deal with one school for the first time in almost 20 years. Michelle was a freshman and Steven was a sophomore at Bloomingdale High School. And even though I wasn't teaching seminary, I still got to drive there each morning because neither of them had licenses yet. I did write a blogpost in honor of our special day, and we went to the temple and out to dinner the weekend before in order to celebrate our anniversary.

Anniversary #27 - "This week we enjoyed a low-key 27th anniversary celebration." (My journal entry on Sunday, August 23rd.) I wonder what made it low-key? Probably just a simple dinner somewhere, along with sharing a wedding story, but at least we did celebrate our anniversary.

Anniversary #28 - It wasn't quite so quiet the next year, thanks to our visiting newlyweds, who wanted to honor our anniversary even as they were in town for an open house to honor their wedding. Brad and Cody, with Steven and Michelle's help, fixed us a candlelight lunch, and then we all drove to Madeira Beach to spend time in the sun and enjoy dinner at Dockside Dave's to celebrate our anniversary.

Anniversary #29 - This was the first of many "staycation" anniversary celebrations. Jupiter Beach Resort and Spa was the perfect introduction to this treat. We splurged on an ocean facing balcony room so we could wake up to the sunrise, ate dinner and breakfast at their on-site restaurant, and thoroughly enjoyed our time relaxing on the beach. It was a delightfully wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary.

Maybe someday I'll go back and create its own post, but I did make the time then to add some collage pictures to our photo album.

Anniversary #30 - This Monday anniversary was another "first day of school for the seminary teacher;" however, I wasn't even in town for that event. I was helping our college students drive a car across the country, and Wayne was putting Elder Steven on a plane. It was an interesting switch for me to be the one away from home. However, with all of our children finally out of the nest, when I returned home, it was to start a new stage of life together, definitely a memorable way to celebrate our 30th anniversary!
