Saturdays in June - #1

We had planned a Saturday hike, but it’s a rainy day, so instead I’ll write about the “hikes” we did last month.

That’s in quotes because this first Saturday, although our walk was through a wooded area, at less than a mile it was more of a stroll. Welcome to H.L. Johnson Park, the next city park on our list. It doesn’t have many amenities, just a couple of benches along the trail, so we didn’t spend much time there, but the time we did spend was nice and relaxing. It’s always great to get out into nature!

I was wondering who H.L. Johnson was, and I learned that he was a principal in our county, probably in the 1970’s, who was instrumental in getting an elementary school built in what at the time was a fairly rural area. H.L. Johnson Elementary School (the yellow building below) is adjacent to H.L. Johnson Park. H.L. stands for Howard Lynn, and you can read about the 30th anniversary celebration for the school here.

While we were out and about, we stopped by to wish our oldest grandson a very happy birthday, COVID-19 style, which means we donned our masks and stayed six feet away outside while delivering him a birthday gift that wasn’t practical to mail. Hopefully next year we’ll be able to share cake and hugs.

In case you’re baffled, like Wyatt was, as to what could possibly be in the heavy bag, here you go:

A couple of years ago I made a PVC fort for a Relief Society activity, intending to send it to our grandsons to use in their basement. Then they downsized and moved to a house without a basement! However, they do have a backyard, and the time was right to give it to our awesome Lego builder. It makes the perfect spot for his newest hobby – whittling.
