Michigan in June

We don’t normally leave the airport during the middle of the day, and we don’t normally have a window seat. So, I took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the view, and now you can, too. I was on the wrong side of the plane to take a picture of our house as we flew over it, but I did get a picture of the Target and other neighborhoods we’re familiar with. If you look carefully, you can see the Florida shoreline and the countryside of North Carolina and West Virginia. The gray clouds denote that we were approaching Michigan. Our time of arrival coincided with a large thunderstorm, so we got to circle over Ohio for a while before approaching Detroit behind the storm. As far as travel inconveniences go, that was pretty minor, for which we’re grateful.

We eventually made it to Steven’s apartment and got to meet William. He was all ready to leave so we could try Ann Arbor’s best pizza at Buddy’s Pizza. It was delicious pizza, but, as usual, our company was even better.

Sunday was a beautiful day, and you can read all about the reason for our visit here. Monday morning we decided to visit Gallup Park, and we had a great time strolling around the place.

Can you tell what was used to make the “peacock” sculpture? This park straddles the Huron River. Some day, when no babies are along for the ride, we may rent a canoe or paddle boat and actually get out on the river.

Soon after I asked Steven if the lawn was ever mowed, we noticed the giant lawnmower, so learned that the answer is “Yes.” We walked by three different playgrounds, but only stopped at one, although Lynelle also enjoyed exploring around the occasional animal statue.

We had a wonderful time at the park before returning home for nap time. We had success with naps, not so much success with pictures.

After nap time, and after checking the city guide, we tried another new restaurant for dinner, the aMa Restaurant. That stands for Ann Arbor Michigan, although you wouldn’t really figure that out from their logo. Maybe they should contact Michelle for help.

Our food was fresh and delicious, and we had the place to ourselves! Lynelle was mesmerized with the old Mission Impossible movie playing on the screen, but she managed to fill her tummy with chicken and french fries anyway.

The next morning, while Grandpa was doing some more exploring at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology (note that the above picture is from last year’s visit), the rest of us explored the Leslie Science and Nature Center, checking out the birds and the short nature trail.

One of the secondary goals of this trip was to get an updated family picture to display in our home. Little girl didn’t really want to cooperate. Remember we’re still looking for suggestions on how to make this happen when we get all 16 grandchildren together next summer! We may just have to go with a technique that doesn’t entail standing or sitting next to each other!

Thanks for a wonderful weekend! We love you!!
