Guadalupe - McKittrick Canyon

Next on the list of trails was McKittrick Canyon up to Pratt Cabin, with the option of continuing on to The Grotto and the Hunter Line Shack. You could also go even further, to The Notch and beyond, but we had no desire to turn this into a backpacking trip.

It was a cool, cloudy day which made for a comfortable hike. Following the creek - and crossing it several times - to the Pratt Cabin was quite pleasant. We enjoyed exploring the old buildings and grounds but have no regrets for never having to live there. Then we were off to The Grotto - a cave-like formation right off the trail - and the workmen's "shack" which was boarded up and deteriorating - before retracing our steps back to the parking lot.  We had a few raindrops sprinkling down near the tail end of our hike, but didn't really get wet. However, once back at the campsite, it was pouring down rain. Fortunately, staying in our car and then tent kept us dry.
