Guadalupe - Devil's Hall
After setting up camp and quickly checking out the visitor's center, we still had a couple of hours before dinner, so we decided to acclimate ourselves and take a short, 4-mile hike to check out Devil's Hall. It's been a long time since I've done an afternoon hike (maybe never!) and it was actually quite enjoyable. Our campground was right next to the main trailhead which was handy. First we hiked along the riverbed, then the trail became the riverbed. That's why all the descriptions of the hike include "scrambling"; fortunately, we didn't really have to climb over boulders. Near the end there was a "natural staircase" we had to climb, which might be intimidating for some, but really wasn't bad at all. That led to the narrow canyon - called Devil's Hall - and the trail itself came to a dead end a little past that. Finally, we retraced our steps. This was the perfect introduction for our week in Guadalupe Mountains National Park.
The End!
