Hike #96 - Florida Trail - Okeechobee West - Day Two

Our second segment of this hike was a beautiful sunny day. It was a bit chilly, but not as cold as we expected, so we left our coats in the car. 

We started by heading south to where we left off last week at the lock. Our original maps showed we had to cross the Harney Pond Canal on the road's bridge, but apparently someone built a pedestrian bridge and that was very nice to not have to get close to the cars. It didn't take too long to hike those two miles. Along the way we passed homes across the canal, saw lots of birds, enjoyed the view of the marsh with the lake in the far distance, and even found a covered bench which we stopped at on the return trip.

After crossing the canal again, we kept going. This section of the trail continued to follow the perimeter canal and was unpaved. After a mile we crossed another boat access road - which also wasn't marked on our map - and after another couple of miles, we turned around. Hopefully next week we'll remember where that spot was!

Final tally - 10.25 miles in 3 1/2 hours. Three more segments to go!
