Two New Experiences

Because we live so far from our grandchildren, we don't do a lot of spectating at their various activities. However, on this trip to Utah we had three opportunities to do so arise. First, we were invited to cheer on Theo and Wilbur as they participated in their first running race - a 1K after their dad ran the Haunted Half down Provo Canyon. They were so excited to be able to wear their Halloween costumes before Halloween!

We also learned that on the same day Evelyn had a debate tournament and Dallin had a rock-climbing competition. Because Evelyn's activity was in Provo, hers was our first choice. Fortunately, we were allowed to observe, as long as we kept quiet. A group of eight students were pretending to be U.S. Presidential candidates; each was given a question to answer (about cyber security, military force, foreign trade, etc.) followed by some group rebuttal. It was definitely a unique experience for us.

Even their parents had to divide and conquer, (we remember those days!), but we did get some pictures of our rock climber.

It was great to be in Provo once again, and to share these fun moments with some of our children and grandchildren. We even drove by our very first apartment, across the street from the playground at the Provo Rec Center (which didn't exist when we lived there). And we finished our day by watching the second half of the BYU-Iowa State football game with Dad. The first half was a bit disconcerting for us as BYU fans, which made the ending score with a win quite exciting.
