Florida Trail - Segment 6 Again

Because we felt good after yesterday's hike, we decided to continue our trek today. We ended up walking just over 12 miles and still had energy at the end! It helped that there was a fair amount of cloud cover, so it was not quite as hot. In addition, the last few miles were off the dike and so more interesting which is more energizing, although the view wasn't nearly as beautiful.

Note: I actually thought we were starting Segment 6 of the Florida Trail for this week's activity, and we were, but we were really finishing up Hike #95 in our Hiking Florida book. That's the hike from Canal Point to Clewiston along the Okeechobee dike. We've already done Hike #94, which is from Okee-Tantie to Canal Point, and we'll start Hike #97 when we pick up the trail beyond Clewiston. (Hike #96 will be last, the remaining trail back to Okee-Tantie.)

After 4 1/2 miles we enjoyed our snack at the same table we ate at yesterday, then turned around and headed back to Clewiston.

A road walk is required to go around the canal leaving the lake, so we headed into town, passing the cemetery where Wayne officiated at a funeral five years ago (for Byron Walker), and made our way past the boat ramp to Levee Park. Once we realized they were there, we found the occasional orange blazes which mark the Florida Trail.

What a nice day! What a nice hike!
