Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail - Day 7

There are seven miles between the parking area at Port Myakka and the next one at Chauncy Bay. Since 14 miles was a bit much for one day's route, we got creative. This day we went north from Part Myakka for six miles before turning around. The next time we parked at Chancy Bay, went south one mile to our previous stopping point, and then north for a few miles as well. We did the same thing at Henry Creek and Nubbin Slough to help even out our daily treks. Our feet appreciated that strategy, even if our minds had to cope with not going the "correct direction" properly.

Before getting started on the Florida Trail at Port Myakka, we took a short detour to the locks. Watching the boats go through was quite fascinating. This was a beautiful section of the trail with the lake on one side, the perimeter canal on the other and lots of birds keeping us company.
