Miller Woods

 

Technically, this is called the Paul H. Douglas Trail, but it used to be called the Miller Woods Trail, and I think that's much easier to say and remember. Our original idea was to take this as a ranger-led full moon hike, but when our car broke down we had to cancel that plan. I'm actually glad we did this during the day. Although overcast, it wasn't rainy, and this was a beautiful out-and-back hike through rolling hills (or forested dunes) by small lakes, that started at the nature center (under renovation so we didn't go inside) and ended at a Michigan Lake beach. I imagine you could be prepared to spend some time at the beach, and I know people do, but who would really want to lug chairs and coolers for that distance?
