Boca Raton Museum of Art

We found a new list of activities to try - from the AAA tour book - and the first one wasn't too far away, so off we went to the Boca Raton Museum of Art. We had a nice time looking at all the paintings and sculptures. Actually, it felt more like a regular history museum, and we were surprised that there weren't more paintings. That might be due to the current exhibit: Smoke and Mirrors. It showcased many different exhibits dealing with magic. There were also some permanent exhibits, some of which had paintings, but a lot didn't. Amazingly, we were able to read all the signs in a few hours; that rarely happens on our museum visits. Maybe that makes this a small museum. However, small or large, we're glad we went.

Some of the art is outside in their sculpture garden.

My two favorite pieces were in the stair well: Dietreich, 1981 by Larry Poons and Angels and Ancestors, IV, 2007 by Wendy Wischer. My pictures don't do them justice.

Another intriguing piece was one made out of sections of golf bags (bottom right above) and we even found a Picasso (center top below).

There was a lot of art to be found in the gift shop as well. In fact, I almost enjoyed exploring the colorful pieces there more than wandering through the galleries.

The first place on this "Great Experiences" list was a good one. Next up will be Butterfly World. We actually went there once about 20 years ago. I wonder if anything will seem familiar or recognizable.
