Haws Flat Trail

Yes, it was a cold morning (about 40 degrees), but the sun was shining and there wasn't any wind or rain, so it was actually quite pleasant for our traditional Thanksgiving week hike at Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia.

The Haws Flat Trail starts in the small parking lot just beyond the entrance station. It's a short trail, only 0.62 miles, so would be great for a family hike. We quite enjoyed it.

We went counter-clockwise around the loop, which means we started by going through a little field, before heading into the woods.

Near the end we came across some boulders that apparently many use to practice their rock-climbing skills. (If that's your plan, start at the other end of the parking lot and go clockwise, then you have a short return back to your car.)

We'll be back someday to do the outer loop - Split Rock Trail. (Haws Flat was the inner loop.)

It was the perfect end to our fall trip to Virginia this year.
