A Harry Potter Birthday Party

We attended our grandson's 11th birthday party. Such creativity went into it! Harry Potter was a fun theme, and they did a great job making all the games and food fit. See if you can find wands and robes and other Hogwarts doodads in the following pictures.

Outdoor activities included playing cornpone with Dobby's socks and blowing pingpong balls over cups of water - using the "Everte Statum" incantation. (See more ideas here.)

Indoors the boys did something with this block maze (I should have written this post sooner!) and made their own potion out of cotton balls, paint and glitter.

Of course the food fit the theme as well, with luscious Butter Beer and Cauldron Cupcakes.

Butterbeer Recipe - Add a bit of butter extract (and caramel extract if desired) to cream soda and pour into a glass. Top with whipped cream and drizzle with butterscotch sauce. You could also stir some of the butterscotch sauce into the cream soda, and you could substitute caramel syrup if necessary.

Cauldron Cupcakes - Make chocolate cupcakes, but turn them upside-down before frosting, and attach three chocolate chips to the bottom for legs. Make things fancy by using magical candles!

Sam has some terrific, well-behaved friends. We had a great time getting to know them and celebrating this special birthday together.

We couldn't leave without taking a picture, and also admiring the amazing Halloween chalkboard artistry!
