Indian Key

Apparently, the tides and the moon and the wind and the rain forecast all need to align perfectly before you can rent a kayak to head over to Indian Key, but that all came together on our second attempt, and off we went!

We rented the double kayak, and set off from Robbie's Marina across the water, for a trip that took 20-25 minutes. We thought we were supposed to head to a beach on the left side of the island, but when we got there we found a big "do not land here" sign, so headed to the right, and after a few minutes found the "kayak landing" sign.

We were prepared for bugs (because they were quite bothersome at Lignumvitae Key). Fortunately, the only insects we saw - or felt - were beautiful little butterflies.

There used to be a town on this island. There are no longer any buildings, but the "roadways" still exist, along with a couple of cisterns. We enjoyed exploring the sights.

We obeyed the sign and stayed away from the unsafe dock!

And then it was time to head back, return the kayak, enjoy another delicious dinner at the Hungry Tarpon, and drive home. What a great stay-cation day!
