Lake Park Scrub Natural Area

Today's activity was checking out Lake Park Scrub Natural Area. The website noted there was no parking, and also suggested it might be closed, so we weren't sure what to expect, but we did check the map and found a parking lot not too far away from which we could start our exploration.

We walked about 3/4 mile down the busy street to the county sign and noticed that there WAS a pedestrian gate, and that the natural area WAS open. Back to the car we went to get our hiking boots (and also move our car to a closing parking lot that we found). Then we were off again!

We basically just walked all the old dirt roads, turning around when we reached a boundary. Along the way we saw plenty of beautiful flowers, plants, and trees - and even a few butterflies, but they don't like having their picture taken.

Remember that even a few inches elevation change in South Florida brings a different habitat. There was even a small hill to climb, which gave us this beautiful overview. That was my favorite part of our hike.

Yes, I was there! Final tally - 2 1/2 miles. You can see it's not a very big parcel of land, and it's not our favorite county natural area, but we did enjoy our time there. Feel free to check it out yourself!
