Acadia - The Trip Home

Because we broke camp early, we had an extra day in the schedule for driving home. That allowed us time to take the scenic road (Highway 1) out of Maine.

We spent the night in Providence, Rhode Island - crossing off another state visited - and then took some time the next day to get off the freeway and explore a few back roads of Connecticut, where my great-grandparents lived.

We even had time to pay our respects at the cemetery where they are buried, before heading into major civilization once again. That night we stayed near Richmond, Virginia.

We planned our trip to arrive in Savannah, Georgia early enough to spend a few hours exploring that delightful city. It's a beautiful, quaint city and we enjoyed wandering around for a bit.

We also enjoyed our dinner - at The Shrimp Factory on the river - and dessert - at Leopold's. Of course, we would have enjoyed it more if we had seen the sign that said "No parking on this side of the street after 8 PM (for street cleaning)!" We came back to our car at 8:15 PM to find a ticket. Several other cars had tickets as well, but that was not very consoling. Our expensive - but very delicious - ice cream became even more expensive! You've been forewarned.

The End.
