Acadia - Carriage Roads

One of the unique features of Acadia National Park is its system of carriage roads, built for John D. Rockefeller, who wanted to travel around the island without being bothered by cars.

I think the majority of today's visitors use bicycles on these roads (and some take horse-drawn carriages), but we decided to go on foot, and selected a loop that took us by Upper Hadlock Pond

The scenery was gorgeous, but the workmanship of the bridges and culverts was amazing!

I just loved this little water spout - so decorative, yet functional!

We highly recommend exploring the carriage roads of Acadia National Park, whether in a horse-drawn vehicle, by bike, or on foot.
