Acadia - The Camping Experience

We had a lovely campsite at the Blackwoods Campground during our stay at Acadia National Park. It's a very well kept campground, nice and quiet (at least while we were there).

The first order of business is to set up camp. While erecting our tent, we noticed a few holes in the corners and decided this would be its last use. It has served us well! We also enjoyed building a fire a couple of times. Foil dinners and roasted marshmallows are delicious, and the epitome of camp fare.

We enjoyed eating our sandwiches for lunch at various picnic areas throughout the park, and we also passed several lobster shacks as we drove. One day we stopped to order one for our dinner.

When we realized how easy lobster is to prepare, and how inexpensive it is in Maine compared to our local grocery store prices, we had to have it again, this time plopping the live lobster into our own boiling water.

Rain was in the forecast as our week ended, so we pulled out the giant tarp and strung it over our tent, finishing just as drops began to fall.

In the middle of that rainy night, we heard a loud "swoosh", and water started coming inside the tent. Fortunately, the van was dry, so we moved into it to rest until daylight, when we discovered the tarp had split right down the middle!

Needless to say, as we packed up, the tarp joined the tent in the garbage bin. We left a day early (because the rain wasn't forecasted to stop and our sleeping bags were soaked), but we have lots of great memories from our time at Acadia National Park and Campsite #93.
