Pompano Beach
It was a beautiful sunny morning when we left home, and there was no rain in the forecast until late afternoon, so we were expecting another wonderful beach day (although we did realize it probably wouldn't be as perfect as last week's beach day). There was no hint of any storm when I dropped Wayne off at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea so he could take his traditional hike along the shoreline, but after I parked at Pompano Beach, I was greeted by gray clouds and gusty winds. Surprise!
Then the rain arrived, so I bagged the original plan to set up chairs and read while waiting for him to arrive. Instead, I walked down the beach, wading in the nice warm water. Fortunately, the rain didn't last long, so we did eventually set up our chairs.
We even went swimming, although we stayed close to shore. It wasn't terribly pleasant because of the churned-up seaweed, and I did get knocked over a couple of times. However, because Wayne got his hair wet, we can cross this beach off the bucket list!
Technically, there is supposedly a snack bar available, but it was closed, and it wasn't even Tuesday. Maybe it's a Covid thing. However, before recognizing that possibility, we had already planned to bring a picnic lunch, which we enjoyed in the wind while watching the waves.
After deciding not to add any more to the parking meter ($2.50/hour), would you believe that as soon as we finished packing up, the clouds cleared a bit and we started seeing blue sky? It was just as beautiful as when we drove down! Oh well. Despite the windy weather, we still rated this beach 4 suns; Pompano Beach City has no control over the weather, and it's really a very beautiful beach!
