Bear Lake Reunion - In the Kitchen
We know from experience that people get grouchy when they're hungry, so meals were a very important part of our family reunion preparation. With four nights and four "kid" families, it worked out well to assign each one a dinner meal (that included the shopping, preparing, and clean-up), while we took care of the breakfasts and lunches (with plenty of help from others).
Stocking Up!
Dinner Menu:
Tuesday - Smoked Chicken, Macaroni & Cheese, Vegetable Platter, Rolls, Birthday CakeWednesday - Pasta, Red Sauce, White Sauce, Watermelon
Thursday - Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Baked Potatoes, Raspberry Milkshakes
Friday - Taco/Nachos/Burrito Bar and S'Mores
Lunches were simple - sandwiches, chips and fruit. They were easier to fix at the house, but possible to take to the beach.
We had delicious breakfasts as well!
Breakfast Menu:
Wednesday - Eggs and Bagels
Thursday - Pancakes
Friday - Oatmeal and Granola and Yogurt
Saturday - Cold Cereal (and leftovers!)
That was the plan. What wasn't used on one day became fair game for the remaining days. Surprisingly, the kids enjoyed oatmeal, although "Maple and Brown Sugar" was the hands-down favorite (over Peaches and Cream). Next time we'll have to remember to bring chocolate chips to sprinkle on the pancakes, but the adults liked the blueberry option. We did remember to buy chocolate chip bagels (along with some other varieties), and while the berry cream cheese disappeared first, someone did ask for plain (which we didn't bring). Breakfast was kind of a "fix your own when you get up" meal (under adult supervision), and that worked perfectly.
