It was a beautiful spring morning, and a perfect day for a hike, (part of it was on the Ocean to Lake part of the Florida Trail), when we headed out to Hungryland Slough. We saw lots of birds and beautiful flowers, and even a deer and an alligator - in the distance, just the way we like it.
Making progress! Do you see the little blue circle (looks a bit like the stick figure's foot)? That's the hike we did today, the orange then blue trail on the first map. The far east end of the loop brought us to the Beeline Epressway. Our timing was perfect to wave to a passenger train as it zoomed along the railroad track. Then we headed east along the canal to return to the parking area. The smoke in the distance was a bit disconcerting; fortunately, however, as the trail turned we realized it was not going to present a problem at all, and turned out to be a prescribed burn on neighboring Corbett Management Area.
We'll be back some day in the future to do the yellow loop!
