High Ridge Scrub

March is such a delightful time of year to get out and explore in South Florida! The original plan was to hike along the red/yellow loop at this natural area. However, what we found online did give any distances, and once we completed the circle, it wasn't lunch-time yet and we had plenty of energy, so we hiked the white perimeter trail as well.

The first section of the trail was paved, and then we headed off on sandy trails, but all along the trail were beautiful wildflowers!

We spotted several gopher tortoises along our way!

Note that there's a gate near the parking lot which prevents you from doing a complete circle, you need to backtrack. However, both the inner and outer trails combined were less than 5 1/2 miles, so it's a very do-able morning activity. Although you do get some noise from the neighboring freeway on the eastern border, we highly recommend a visit to this beautiful spot in the middle of civilization.
