Rudolph Day - Trees

This month’s Rudolph Day symbol of Christmas is the Christmas tree.

Even before Christ’s birth, trees that stayed green all year long carried special meaning for people. A green, thriving tree in the dead of winter reminded people of hope and new life. Because of Jesus Christ, we can have everlasting life (see 3 Nephi 5:13), so we can choose to see the evergreen tree as a natural symbol of Him and His gift to us. (source)

This particular site also has a section of fun and games related to Christmas! Don’t feel like you have to wait until December to have some fun.

Because trees are a symbol of Christmas, you’ll find them represented in treats and decorations. 

Even if they aren’t green, they can still be a symbol of everlasting life!

Earlier this week, while reading in the Book of Mormon, I was reminded that

all things which have been given of God from the beginning of the world, unto man, are the typifying of him. (2 Nephi 11:4)

I love the thought that everything should remind us of our Savior, but it’s also nice to have common consensus and specific symbols of his love for us. Trees, especially evergreen trees, are a wonderful reminder that life is eternal, and that we should reach heavenward continually, not just at Christmas-time, but today.
