A Delightful Getaway

For months we’ve been looking forward to our anniversary getaway to the Brazilian Court Hotel in Palm Beach, and our stay there definitely lived up to our expectations. It’s an absolutely gorgeous setting, intimate and serene, and we had a fabulous time being pampered. Our experience with dinner at their onsite restaurant, Cafe Boulud, was so amazing that we returned for both breakfast and lunch the next day.

We stayed in the Crawford Suite (an upgrade given to us during check-in), which we figured was named after Joan Crawford, an actress when this hotel was built in the 1920’s. I loved that we got a real key and not a key-card.

The Brazilian Court Hotel – named because the front gate was originally on Brazilian Avenue (now it’s on Australian Avenue) – was built in a courtyard style, with the buildings all facing a central oasis. Look at the quaint details and peaceful ambiance.

The hotel is two blocks from the Atlantic Ocean, a very pleasant walk, although they also offer car service if you so desire. Don’t you just love sitting and watching the waves roll in one after the other? It’s very soothing and calming.

This was not an inexpensive stay-cation, so save up your pennies before following in our footsteps. In the meantime, you can live vicariously through our experience, just as we will, because unless $100 bills start growing in our backyard, the chances we’ll return in the near future are slim. We do, however, highly recommend the hotel if money is not an issue. (So do other people; see links below.)

We had a wonderful time on our anniversary get away last year, and this year’s was even better. I guess that’s a good description for marriage in general – each year is better than the last. We’re looking forward to seeing what the future brings!

No post mentioning food is complete without a picture or two, so here you go. Besides, I want to remember what we had so I can attempt to recreate it at home if I feel like it in the future. That may be more practical, and certainly less expensive, than returning to Cafe Boulud, although I won’t rule out that option.

Dinner: Pressed Watermelon with Lemon and Dill, Gazpacho Andalou, Roasted Beet Salad (with caviar-infused blue cheese, pecans and endive), Red Pepper Risotto, Dover Sole

Dessert: Peach Melba, complimentary pastries, including their house speciality – Madelines

Breakfast: Oatmeal (that actually tasted delicious!) and Ouefs Forestieres (or baked eggs with wild mushrooms and Gruyere)

Lunch: Curried Chicken Salad (with mango, golden raisins, peanuts, tomatoes and even grapefruit pieces), Chicken Caesar Salad, Key Lime Pie (with grapefruit sorbet which was a nice complement)
