Christmas Eve 2018

Our holiday started very early with a trip to the airport, but that meant we had some extra helpers when it came time to prepare dinner.

In addition to those beautiful pear and pomegranate salads, we had Mom's Crescent Rolls, Roast Beef, and Buche de Noel, all of which took preparation time in the morning. Once that was done, there was time to run a few errands, and we were home before Weston's family arrived and the boys got to meet their Uncle Hayden for the first time.

Dinner was delicious and with lots of help it didn't take long to clean up.

I finally found a use for some Santa tea lights I picked up years ago - surround the with cranberries in a little bowl. Once lit, they lasted just about as long as dinner did. Isn't that great?

Instead of just reading the Christmas story from the Bible, Weston's family wanted us to act it out this year, so we did. Can you figure out who played which role?

Getting ready!

That was followed by singing Christmas hymns. People's favorites this year included "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" (Wayne & Megan), "Christmas Bells" (Wyatt & Sam), "Angels We Have Heard on High" (Becky & Weston), "The First Noel" (Hayden & Michelle) and "Away in a Manger" (Clark).

Finally, since this is the first year ever that we had family visiting for Christmas Eve that weren't sleeping in our house that night, we opened those presents to/from each other in person. There were three little boys who didn't complain about that one bit.

At the last minute, Wayne decided to give some little cars he received at a convention to each of the boys. They loved them. I guess he'll be collecting more at future events.

And then they left. The rest of us watched a movie and then went to bed. It was a beautiful day filled with lots of memory making moments.
