Christmas Day 2018
Christmas arrived! If you've been reading this for any length of time, you'll know that most of our traditions revolve around food. Christmas morning is no exception, and we had our normal scrambled eggs and cinnamon roll breakfast. The difference this year was that I only made eight, just enough for breakfast with no leftovers. Taking a walk beforehand also allowed for plenty of rising time (with dough saved from the day before and refrigerated overnight), and the rolls turned out beautifully.
Then it was time for pictures, stockings, and gifts. We noticed a difference in gift giving between the generations - a lot of our gifts were replacements for things that had worn out over the year (like a serving bowl, a cutting board, a paper shredder, pants, shoes, and a watch) and that wasn't the case with their gifts. We also noticed that the gifts from our children were so identifiably unique and perfect. We'll definitely remember the giver as we use them. There were gifts that brought chuckles and gifts that brought tears (the good kind). Even more important than the physical gifts, though, was the sense of love that permeated the annual ritual of gift giving.
That was followed by cleaning up, making phone calls, enjoying leftovers, watching another movie and even installing a ceiling light.
I don't know if this is considered traditional by everyone else, but it was an exactly perfect day for us. We hope you had a wonderful Merry Christmas as well!
