Shuckstack Tower

 

It made the most sense to take this hike after packing up camp and starting our drive home, since the trailhead was quite a distance from Cades Cove. So that's what we did. After crossing Fontana Dam we found the sign marking our starting point on the Appalachian Trail.

This is a steep, challenging hike, but we made it to the tower. It turned out to be the perfect day to climb the tower; the views from the top were incredible in every direction.

After completing our hike, we took a little detour to the picnic area to view Fontana Dam. If you look closely, you can see the fire tower as well. What a wonderful vacation!
