Cades Cove
September is a beautiful month to visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Look at this gorgeous Cades Cove valley. We thoroughly enjoyed our drive around the Cades Cove Loop Road, along with hundreds of other people. It was Labor Day Weekend after all.
First stop was the John Oliver Cabin.
We stopped at a few different churches.
The Cooper Road/Wet Bottom Trail led to the Elijah Oliver place.
Along with several others, we took the trail to enjoy beautiful Abrams Falls.
Fewer people took the little spur to the Henry Whitehead cabin.
Next up was a short nature trail, complete with a bear sighting.
There were three more cabins to explore as we went further along the road - the old homes of the Lawson, Taylor and Shields families.
Traffic was stopped for turkeys in the road on our way back to the campground, but we had plenty of daylight left to enjoy delicious barbecued steaks - one of the perks of not having any kids along!
