Levee Hike

The starkly beautiful Everglades on a cold winter morning.

It was a cold, misty Saturday, and we probably should have packed a sweatshirt, but Wayne went on his hike anyway! 9 miles north along the levee from the Sawgrass Trailhead to the northern end of the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area, where it joins the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge.

After sending him on his way, I took a few pictures of the parking area and fishermen, then headed off to go pick him up. While he traversed 9 miles, I had to cover 20. Since driving, even double the distance, doesn't take nearly as long as walking, I beat him to the end point. That gave me time to do some reading and also some people watching.

From the end of this segment, first looking south (Do you see him coming?), then north (a trail we've already completed).

The next segment, which starts back at the parking area at the beginning of this one, heads west across the Everglades.
