Works for Me Wednesday - Backwards Edition
Cleaning the shower door and faucets

Today's edition of Works for me Wednesday is backwards. Meaning, instead of telling you something I know, you tell me something you know. I get to pick your brain. And I could really use it. You may or may not know that cleaning bathrooms is my least favorite household chore. And it's probably because no matter how hard I scrub or how many different products I try, I have not conquered the ability to make my glass shower doors and tub faucets shine.

Sooo, how do you get yours all nice and sparkly? I'd love to know.

I don't know if this is what you meant, but I use glass cleaner on my faucets and it makes them really shine! Also, we have really hard water here, so I use hard water cleaner before the glass cleaner. Hope that helps!

Baking soda. make a paste out of it and that gets off your water stains and makes the chrome all shiny. it's non toxic and cheap!

I've heard that using a squeegee on the inside of the shower door after every shower is a great preventative measure!

the baking soda and vinegar really do work, but once every couple weeks, I use bleach, boy that'll make it shine!

I want to know too. I can NOT get my shower door clean. I've used CLR, Lime Away, Scrub Free, you name it, and even when it looks clean, it's not. You can still see a film on it. Short of using something harsh/abrasive (that would definitely scratch the glass), I am unable to get the gunk off!

I have used Magic Erasers before...they work on everything!!!! You have to scrub pretty hard the first time but if you keep up with it the next time won't be so bad.

I have no idea how to keep it clean but I wanted to say thanks for giving me some advice on a cleaning schedule and I wanted to see what people told you to do to keep your shower clean :)

Once you figure out how to keep that shower clean (which I ditto the baking soda, glass cleaner, or bleach) I can see a great improvement in my shower using the automatic shower cleaner. (scrubbing bubbles?) You deal with a lot more moisture than I, but it cuts my deep cleaning down to a monthly scrub!

I rather go and clean them myself instead of telling you what I do :-)
One thing I find very helpful is to either clean right after Dave takes a shower(since the boy cooks himself every time) and then I apply my cleaner, which depends on how dirt I'm dealing with, baking soda and vinegar are great, just apply to a steamy shower, gently rub it on and then let it sit for about 10 minutes. Come back and get your sponge wet, scrub until all the spots are gone and then rinse very well. Apply Windex, buff with paper towel, turn the light on and smile :-)
If you don't have anyone that likes very hot water turn the hot water on and close the doors, let it get steamy in there (sorry I know it's wasteful) for about 5 minutes and then turn it off let it be for other 5 minutes and then start the cleaning.
Make sure you don't scratch it because if you do, then it will never shine the same again....
I gotta go and clean mine now, I got excited!

I use my homemade all-purpose cleaner: 1/2 cup vinegar, fill up with warm water, and about 15 drops of tea tree essential oil.

It cleans everything and really makes glass, mirrors, and faucets shine!
