Steven's Special Day

For those of you who are keeping your family group records up to date, you can add that Steven was endowed in the Orlando Temple on 28 July 2012.  There's no way to describe here what a special, spiritual, sacred experience it was, but it was the "happiest day of my life" as Steven put it later.  We know there will be other days with the "happiest day of my life" designation in his future, but we'll let this one claim top billing for a while.
Bright and early - which means the picture-taking lighting is terrible from this direction!
I was there!
And so was Grandfather Beckstrand and Jeff.
Trying out a steak burrito at Chevy's afterwards - reminiscent of a fun tradition we haven't done in a while.
We're so proud of you, Steven, and appreciate your strong testimony and stellar example of obedience.  We're honored to have you as part of our forever family!

Project Time

Lately we've been trying to make some progress on the never-ending "to do" list. Here are just a couple of projects we've finally completed.
Michelle got her laptop for college.  To say she's excited would be an understatement.  After spending hours (online and in stores) trying to find a case for it, and not liking the $85 price tag on the only one that looked appealing, we turned to the internet and our scrap box. Here was the result.
Not too bad, huh? And as she put it, the price was certainly right - zero!  Here's the tutorial we used just in case you want to make one yourself: Simple Laptop Sleeve.
While I was in a sewing mood (and after conquering the mending pile!), I finally pulled out the fabric for a simple valance for our computer room.  And then Jeff was kind enough to help hang the rod.  A couple of weeks ago, Michelle finished covering the boxes for me, so slowly this room is looking nicer.  There's still a lot to do (for example, the lavender chest is totally the wrong color now), but we're going to be happy with baby steps!

What do you do to help motivate you to finish the projects you start??  I'm always open to new suggestions!

It's Done! (Well, almost)

We've been keeping busy, but I know some of you want to see how the pantry turned out, so here you go.
After the last shelf was installed.

Left side after the final patching and painting.

The right, angled, side after everything's done.

The contents of the pantry have been sitting in the middle of the kitchen for a while.

And now the cans are all back where they belong.
There won't be any sagging from these shelves!

"We approve."
The middle of our kitchen is empty again!

All that's left is to install the door.

Happy 4th of July!

We had a wonderful time celebrating Independence Day, and we hope you did too.  We started the day with a ward breakfast and bike parade.  Following that we worked on some repair projects around the house.  And we ended the day with food and fun with friends and family!
Shish Kebabs, Shrimp, Salads and Smore's Bites!
The Birthday Cake - sorry the corner picture is fuzzy, but I wanted to share the procession!

FIREWORKS!
FREEZER WORKS!!
(dry ice and water in soda bottles = deafening noise and awesome modern art)
We're just having a blast with the 2012 summer version of our  "at-home" family!!
