WFMW - Individual Time - Son #1

Works for Me Wednesday:
Spending individual time with children

I can't really remember how we did it when they were younger, but I know we tried spending individual time with each of the children. That's just a sound parenting principle. We figured it was still important even now that they're grown, so while the teenagers were off having fun at EFY, we decided to spend a day with each of our married sons. And schedule-wise, it worked out best to start with the oldest!

Weston had to work, so we gathered Megan and Wyatt and introduced them to Wayne's favorite store in the world - Smith & Edwards, just north of Ogden, Utah. (This is a giant hardware/army surplus/western wear/camping store. We looked at household goods, camping equipment, dutch oven supplies - surprisingly the prices were better than at the Lodge Factory Store - and lots more. We ended up buying a couple of new tarps, leather scraps so Wayne could repair his hiking stick and some Christmas surprises. Even Megan found Brad's wedding gift and new camping chairs. We decided against the chair with a built in cover so Steven could play video games at the beach without a towel over his head, and the "western" onesie for Wyatt. Lots of fun! Try it out sometime when you're in the area.)He was so excited to share this first with the next generation.
Then it was time to fulfill another long-held dream - visiting Antelope Island.
25 years ago we lived just down the road from the Antelope Island Causeway in these apartments. (It looks like they've been remodeled, or at least had a paint job.) However, at that time, the causeway was underwater due to flooding. And we moved away from Utah about the same time it was repaired.
If we had known what a great place it really was, we would have allowed more time! As it was, we had time for a late picnic lunch, time to see some buffalo,
and explore just a bit of the museum/ranch, before heading back to rush-hour traffic on the freeway.
Now that Weston was done with work, he was able to cook us some yummy hamburgers, while we got to play with the baby.
I hope they had as much fun making memories as we did. We can't wait until the next opportunity to do so!

Isn't it fun to spend time with an adult child?
When my four were little, I'd alternate Saturday mornings with each of them. That meant me and one kid who got out of chores for a few hours, once a month. We'd run errands, go garage saling and have lunch together. Few things bring you closer to a kid than one-on-one time!
My hubby always wanted to take me to Smith & Edwards but we never had a chance before moving out of UT...maybe one day.

How fun that you got to spend that time with your son and his family!

Thanks for stopping by my blog :)
