Bringing Honor to the Family Name

We've had a few awards nights on the calendar lately! We may be biased, but the students have worked hard and we feel they deserve the recognition they received!

Each high school in the county chose one male and one female to honor as a Scholar-Athlete. Here's Jeff with Maggie and their principal at the awards banquet. The audience was particularly impressed when Eagle Scout was mentioned.

Steven received the award for top 9th grade math student, a result of taking both Geometry and Algebra II this year and helping his math league team score well at their competitions.

Jeff also got to walk across the stage a few times that evening.

Then it was Michelle's turn. She also participated on her math league team, probably because her teachers expected Steven's little sister to do so, but she had fun too. However, her main interest is music. She did a great job on her solo at the end-of-the-year concert. (Unfortunately, Mom didn't do a great job pushing the button to record it!)

Then, for the second year in a row, she was awarded the Director's Trophy, for performance above and beyond the class requirements (show choir, master musician, All-County and All-State choruses, etc.). Dad thinks she ought to keep singing!

Another One Bites the Dust

Paul Bunyan and his assistants paid a visit to our yard yesterday. We thought you might enjoy the video of the tree falling. I think adding video is more than our computer can handle, so it's in a different post. It's kind of grainy, but it's there. Here are a couple of other pictures showing the process.

The Honeymoon's Over

We had a wonderful time visiting with friends at the open house for Weston and Megan in Florida.

It was actually a lot of fun preparing delicious goodies, especially with help from a lot of friends.

A wedding cake made out of towels - can you believe this person's creativity???

Unfortunately vacations and parties can't go on forever! Good-bye for now.

Our Little Miracle

One of the most special things about the wedding weekend was having Wayne's former mission president perform the sealing. Since we had no idea he was a sealer at the temple, we consider it a miracle that we got there early, recognized him, and he was able to rearrange the schedule. It was an incredible hour of instruction that I'll never forget. I especially appreciated his comments on how temple weddings are a "payday" for grandparents. Doesn't President Packard have a wonderful countenance? (and his wife too!) I hope we can grow up to be like them :)

Note: President Packard passed away a few years after this, which makes our little miracle even more special. Here's a link to his obituary so our grandchildren can have an idea of what a great man he was. We'll never forget his influence in our lives.

Wonderful Wedding

Our trip to Utah was wonderful! The Ketcheson's are delightful people and it was great seeing family and friends that we haven't seen in years. Our only wish was that we had more time to visit! Anyway, although I took dozens and dozens of pictures, not a single one of just the bride and groom turned out nicely. I guess that's why you hire professionals!! But here are a few of my favorites --
