Scripture Study Insights - week eighteen

Alma 43
The war chapters show the classic fight between good and evil, power and domination vs. freedom and liberty. Protect ourselves with armor, defend ourselves by using stratagem (spies), ask the prophet for counsel and help.

Alma 44
Develop faith in God so strong that it can’t be destroyed.

Alma 45
If we’re really looking, we can find reasons daily to fast and pray and worship – to give joyfully give thanks to God. More repetition – blessed when keep the commandments. Since God can’t look upon sin with any allowance (D&C 1:31), we’re cursed for disobedience. Dissension happens so quickly – Beware! Always strive for unity.

Alma 46
“Stand fast in the faith of Christ.” Be GLAD to be called Christians. RUN to defend liberty.

Alma 47
Wicked people/leaders can be smart and cunning and consummate liars. They have helpers. Two speakers (Elder Hales and Sister Dalton) in last general conference referenced Lehonti’s story of coming off the mountain and being poisoned by degrees. What does that tell us about the importance of the lesson we learn in this chapter?

Alma 48
Wicked leaders gain power by fraud and deceit. They work to harden hearts, blind minds and stir up others to anger. Righteous leaders help people fortify themselves (particularly their homes) and prepare their minds to be faithful to God. When choosing the right, you either prosper in the land, are warned to flee, or are prepared to fight/defend yourself. The righteous enter conflict reluctantly, but they can’t suffer wickedness to overtake them. Just don’t allow fighting and name calling (see Mosiah 4:14-15). Excellent talk by Elder Hunter - "No Less Serviceable".

Alma 49
Weak things CAN become strong (Ether 12:27). Satan will continue to try to destroy us, but he doesn’t have to be successful. Wayne really liked the analogy a priesthood leader used comparing television programming and internet access in our homes to an open sewer pipe spewing garbage into our living rooms. We can control what enters our homes. Peace and prosperity come from diligently heeding the word of God.

Alma 50
Never stop preparing. Our strongholds (families) need many layers of protection: heaps of earth, works of timber, frame of pickets, towers with places of security. Those who faithfully keep commandments are always delivered.

Alma 51
Unity should be our first concern. Don’t allow unkind words or contention. It destroys unity and causes destruction. We have an obligation to sustain and support our country.

Alma 52
We each have our own stewardships and responsibilities but should work together to find solutions to problems. The best way to do this is to move the problem into neutral territory and attack it from all angles.

I've finally got a scripture insight for you. Ether 6:3. Change the word "stone" to "Christ", and interpret "lord" as the God the Father. And then ignore the last 2 lines.
